Do you think the AC system in your Plano, Texas, home is about to fail? If so, there’s a chance you may just need a simple repair to get the system back up and running. There’s also a chance that you actually do need to shop for a new system. One of our technicians can diagnose what’s wrong with your cooling system and help determine whether you need a repair or a replacement. Three of the top signs that the AC is about to quit are short cycling, water leaks, and strange noises coming from the system.

Short Cycling

Short cycling occurs when the cooling system can’t complete a whole cooling cycle without shutting off. Sometimes, short cycling is caused by an AC that’s too big for a home. If this is the case, then you should have the cooling system replaced with a unit that is more appropriately sized. There’s also a chance the compressor is failing. If this is the cause, an AC replacement may be just around the corner. On the other hand, a clogged air filter can cause short cycling too. Simply changing the air filter may fix the problem.

Water Leaks

Condensation builds up in the cooling system as the AC cools the home. There is a drain pipe that the condensation flows through, but sometimes this pipe gets clogged. This can lead to major water leaks. Most of the time, simply having the drainpipe unclogged will fix the problem.

Strange Noises

Loose parts in the cooling system will cause you to hear some weird sounds, like clanging, clinking, and banging. A bad motor can also cause a rattling sound. Regardless of the cause, strange noises should never be taken lightly. Loose parts or a bad motor can quickly lead to an AC replacement if you don’t have them addressed as soon as possible.
