With cold weather just around the bend in Plano, Texas, it’s time to think about heating your home. If  you’re considering replacing your heating system, it’s important to know your heating options and the benefits of each heater type, furnace, heat pump or hybrid.

Furnaces

Furnaces use natural gas or propane to generate warmth. The electronic ignition or pilot light sets fire to the combustion gas coming from a burner, and air is quickly heated in the heat exchanger. Hot air gets blown through the ducts and into your home before coming back to the furnace through the air returns.

Gas for a furnace is usually reasonable due to domestic gas production. Gas furnaces rapidly heat your home to a cozy temperature. These heating systems are some of the most energy efficient furnaces available.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps use refrigerant to take heat energy from one area and transfer it somewhere else. These heaters pull warm air from outside and bring it indoors.

Heat pumps also double as air conditioners. When frosty air arrives, a heat pump’s backup heater, an electric coil, will produce warmth.

Hybrid Heat

Hybrid heating systems offer the best of both worlds. When the air outdoors is too cold for the heat pump to run efficiently, the system switches to gas heat. Gas heat is less expensive than heating with the electric coil found in heat pumps when cold air is going to be around for an extended period of time.

You can choose a temperature for the hybrid system to convert to gas, or you can manually do so. This is a great energy-saving option. .
